The Sunday Post at Bookshelfery

The Sunday Post is a weekly wrap-up post hosted by Kimba at  This is the post where we discuss books we’ve acquired throughout the week, news, and interesting links to other blogs.

OMG look at me doing a Sunday Post!

In real news, my husband and I are buying a home!  I wish I could say house, but in actuality, it’s a condo, because DC Metro is freakin’ expensive, man.  But we close on 9/15 and I am SO EXCITED SHOUTY CAPITALS!  We had not planned to buy anything for awhile and the decision to buy came with a lease renewal notice from our apartment complex, informing us that our rent was going to be increased by nearly $300/month. !!! So at that point, we had to make some decisions.

In other news, my husband and I visited Iowa for our first wedding anniversary.  I know what you’re thinking….IOWA?!  My best friend lives there and we were due for a visit, plus we wanted to go visit the Iowa State Fair in all its food glory.  Bacon-wrapped brisket on a stick anyone?  Of course we ate our faces off!

While in Iowa, BFF & I finally got our matching tattoos.  I think you’ll dig it:

I designed it myself, using a font I purchased from The Hungry JPEG.  I also got a semi-colon tattoo behind my right ear, as symbol of making it through the abuse I talk about in this post.

In blog news, I am going to redesign the header – yes, again.  I have a wonderful idea in my brain that needs to happen.  It will be the best one we’ve ever had (which, I don’t think that bar is very high actually – except for the one Parajunkee did for me back in 2011 which was spectacular – but I’m excited nonetheless).  I’ve been testing my design chops again (I went to college for fine arts and graphic design), and it’s making me so happy.  I’ve opened an Etsy store because I’d like to design things like wedding invitations, save-the-dates, RSVP cards, etc.  And perhaps design some custom blog headers to sell as well.  And I’ve been getting back into photography, in a big way.  I will share all these things once they are ready.

And lastly, for our anniversary, my husband gave me a Kindle Voyage!  My paperwhite has a couple of small cracks in the screen, and it was so distracting.  It was after receiving the Voyage that I decided to attempt to move all my B&N books I purchased over the years (because I had a Nook) over to my Kindle.  And while I’m not really sure if I can discuss how I did it, just know it took some googling, $30 for an app purchase and Calibre. I now have every single book I ever bought for B&N on my Kindle.  Exciting stuff!

Now I just need to spend time making collections so I can organize all 700+ ebooks a little better…

  1. Congrats on buying a home! I live in Alexandria and I rent, but I still know just how damn expensive the DC area is. It’s mind-blowing. I LOVE your tattoo. I’m going to an author event in Pittsburgh in a couple weeks and two of my bookish besties are going to be there. We’ve been kicking around the idea of getting matching tattoos. It’ll be something either Harry Potter (we’ve looked at one really similar to yours!) or generic bookish. But I am a chicken so I’m not sure… Nice book haul! I’m super jealous of all those audiobooks! Have a great week! That’s a Wrap Weekly

    • Oh yes, I think I owe you an email, actually! And can you believe….I did not realize that was you at the Legacy of Kings social on Wednesday. I am such a donkey. What signing are you going to in Pittsburgh? I am heading up to Philly on 9/6 for the QoS signing. SO EXCITED!

  2. Congrats on buying your home!! How exciting! 😀 And I love your tattoo! I was actually supposed to get matching Harry Potter tattoos with a friend… until she went and did it by herself. So I’m a little bitter… 😛 Fantastic haul this week! I really want to read Queen of Someday and The Shadow Queen too!

  3. Happy Anniversary. Congrats on the purchase of a new home. I am listening to The Bourbon Kings on audio, so far so good!

  4. OMG, you can transfer your Nook books to your Kindle?!? How did I not know this?!? *Head explodes* Thank you for posting about that! I also used to have a Nook, and now have a Kindle Paperwhite. Since I have books on both devices, as well as my iPad, my solution has been to read on my iPad. However, I prefer the Paperwhite, because of the anti-glare screen. Thanks so much!! P.S. Happy Anniversary!

    • I did! If you want to email me, I can explain exactly what I did. 🙂 I’ve been reading on my iPad as well, but I love reading on my Kindles much more than the iPad, also because of the glare issue on iPads (or any tablet really). Being able to move the books over means I can delete the Nook app on my iPad and no longer bounce back and forth. Oh and thanks!
