Zach Barrows is an ambitious young White House staffer whose career takes an unexpected turn when he's partnered with Nathaniel Cade, a secret agent sworn to protect the President. But Cade is no ordinary civil servant. Bound by a special blood oath, he is a vampire. Cade battles nightmares before they can break into the daylight world of the American dream, enemies far stranger-and far more dangerous-than civilians have ever imagined.
I know Jenn has already reviewed the book, but I got the book from Audible. So this review will give you a different perspective on the book. But if you didn’t read Jenn’s review and have no idea what is going on, I have only one thing to say: This book was GREAT! Snarky Witty Comments, Monsters, Vampires, Political Intrigue and Beyond Classified Country Secret Stuff!!! Hell Yeah! The narrator of the book is Bronson Pinchot. For those who were born in the 70’s/early 80’s, you will recognize this actor. He has appeared in movies such as Risky Business, True Romance and Beverly Hills Cop. He has also starred in numerous television shows ranging from Perfect Strangers, Step by Step and the Young and the Restless. I would have enjoyed reading this book but Bronson made me fall in love with the book. Because of his voice, I picked certain movies stars to represent the characters. If you have seen these movies or know anything about the movies, you will be laughing so hard by the end of the review. One of the nation’s oldest and most classified secret agents is Nathaniel Cade, the President’s Vampire. Yes you saw that right, a VAMPIRE. Zach Barrows is a political genius who gets assigned to Cade and the life he has prepared, gets flushed down the toilet. I view this book as one big “epilogue”. This book does have the base story of Cade saving the USA/world, but most of the book is dedicated to character development. The Good Guys Nathaniel Cade is a New Age Vampire (aka after Twilight Vampire) who has the mentality of the character Dwayne Johnson played in the movie “The Rundown”. Yes he has self-loathing for being a vampire. Yes he lives off of animal blood and refuses to kill humans for food. But he is bound to the orders of the President by a blood oath. He is a tough S.O.B with a no nonsense attitude that has no social etiquette. Zack Barrows is a typical 25 year old guy who thinks he knows it all. He so reminded me of the character Sean Williams Scott played in the movie “The Rundown”. A smart ass, misunderstood, political genius who uses witty comments to justify his actions in life. Agent William Griffin is your FBI agent that is grooming Zach to take over his job of personal liaison to the President and Cade. All you have to do is picture Tommy Lee Jones character from Men in Black and that is Griff wrapped up in a present. Loads of dry humor in this one! The Bad Guys Johann Konrad Dippel is the Barron of Frankenstein. AKA the real Dr. Frankenstein. All I have to do is close my eyes, here is character voice from Bronson Pinchot and Jeremy Irons fills my mind. The character Jeremy Irons played in Die Hard with a Vengeance. Smooth talking, criminal mastermind that is slippery then a politician (LOL, pun-in-tended). Helen Holt is a former CIA agent who was recruited into working for the Shadow Company . She may look like Barbie but her outlook on life is just like Charlize Theron’s character Ravenna in Snow White and the Huntsmen. She will do anything to accomplish her goals. She is a force to be reckoned with. Mysterious Suit and Glasses Man who pops in and out of this book like Charlie from Charlie’s Angels. But he is no nice guy. You don’t know his name, or what his motives are. But he is the master chess player of an ultimate game we have yet been exposed too. When I first started this review, I though how cool would it be for Jenn and I to write the screen play and sweet talk Christopher Farnsworth to write the script, because this would make an AWESOME MOVIE (if it was cast and written properly). Little did I know that there have been some talk of the Producer of Mr. and Mrs. Smith to work with Christopher for a movie and that Christopher has envisioned Christian Bale to play Cade and Justin Long to play Zach Barrows. NIEJFMVHVHFIEOEKSFHUISIEKEENTJFISSIE. I could so see these actors bringing this book to life. I really hope this happens.
You know, just because you put words together in a series, doesn’t mean you’re actually explaining anything. I can tell you like playing Yoda to my Luke Skywalker, but could you just tell me what the shit is going on here?
