Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, didn't expect to find its former tenant refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

As Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of Jared, a human who still lives in hiding, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she's never met. Reluctant allies, Wanderer and Melanie set off to search for the man they both love.

Featuring one of the most unusual love triangles in literature, THE HOST is a riveting and unforgettable novel about the persistence of love and the essence of what it means to be human.

The Host has got to be the most feminine alien abduction-slash-weirdest love triangle, I have ever read.  You can tell this book was written by a woman.  Nothing wrong with that, but this is definitely a chick book.   This is not your typical alien abduction of little green men and hostile take overs.  They are peace loving creatures named “souls” who wanted to make Earth a peaceful place for the humans to live on.  Yeah they take over your body, control everything about you and you eventually fade away but it is for the “greater good”.  There is no more crimes/murders/and unspeakable horrors, poverty/government/homeless, money is not needed, all known illnesses/diseases gone! It is totally “Mulberry Land”, who wouldn’t want that?? Obviously the small band of humans that managed to escape and do everything they can to hide from the Aliens.   They both hate and fear the aliens.

Now one of the rebels has been caught and the “souls” have decided to implant a rare “soul” that has traveled most of the other planets, to try to seek out the rest of the rebellious humans left.  But, what they did not expect was for the human soul to survive and still exist with the alien soul.  Here in lies the real struggle and how the unusual love triangle happens.  First off, it is a triangle but then again, it is not.  Technically there are 4 people involved but only 3 bodies.  Second of all, the only gender that could see the total logic of this love triangle and accept it, is women.  Only in a woman’s world could this EVER WORK!!!  When you have two women co-habituating in one body and two men who love each woman separately.  Things can get tricky.  There were loads of moments that made you giggle, moments that made you sigh, and heart wrenching moments that tore your heart out.  If only men thought that way about women (LE SIGH).

I absolutely loved, LOVED this book!!  Totally different writing style than Twilight.  The story line was different than any book I have ever read.  It is a very unique book.  You really don’t feel any hostility toward the book or characters at all.  You learn to love the aliens and humans equally.  You have a hard time rooting for your favorite guy because there are two different women.  Yes it is awkward with only one body but this book will not spark anY Teams “This” vs Team “That”.  The book is very good at describing the fear taking place inside the humans and for the aliens.

To most people the book looks intimidating because of its size and it is a little hard to get into.  But let me tell you, once you’re in, OMG ARE YOU IN!!  This is diffidently a book I can read over and over again.  As a matter of fact I picked the book up at noon yesterday and finished the book around 8:30 last night.  There is a certain part where you just start to fly and you can’t put the book down.  You can easily get lost and wrapped up in the book.  For those who get wrapped up in the book, take this advice J put a box of tissue next to you 🙂 HAPPY READING!!!

I knew it would begin with the end, and the end would look like death to these eyes.  I had been warned.
