Please help me welcome Diane Alberts, author of the novel, Divinely Ruined, to The Bawdy Book Blog today!

About Diane Alberts Diane Alberts current contracted works with Entangled Publishing are: ON ONE CONDITION (February 2012, Ever After line), and DIVINELY RUINED (April 2012, Ever After line). Her current works with Decadent Publishing are: KILL ME TOMORROW (October 2011, 1NightStand series), RECLAIMED (December 2011), ABSOLUTION (March 2012, Honor Guard series), BROKEN (March 2012, 1NightStand series), and ESCAPE TO ME (TBA, 1NightStand series). Diane Alberts has always been a dreamer with a vivid imagination, but it wasn’t until 2011 that she put her pen where her brain was, and became a published author. Since receiving her first contract offer, she has yet to stop writing. Though she lives in the mountains, she really wishes she was surrounded by a hot, sunny beach with crystal clear water. She lives in Northeast Pennsylvania with her four kids, a husband, and a Senegal parrot. In the rare moments when she’s not writing, she can usually be found hunched over one knitting project or another.

Hello, and thanks so much for having me here today to talk about my newest Entangled Publishing release, Divinely Ruined. It’s the first in the Divine Temptations Trilogy.

~Who inspired the characters for you in Divinely Ruined? Oh, this is a good one. Okay, here goes: Tony: A lot of my husband is in Tony, when he’s around Miranda. The daddy tax you see in the book? My husband does that with my three year old daughter. And yes, there’s a mommy tax, too. 😉 Rebecca: Rebecca was entirely of her own doing. When I started the book, I didn’t know she would be so sassy. Nor so fun. She was very vocal about how she was going to be portrayed and I, well, I listened! Miranda: My two daughters had a lot to do with her. My one daughter is twelve, and the other is three. A lot of their characteristics and personality shine out in Miranda.

~What was the driving force behind writing about an angel trying to earn her wings? I wanted to write a fun story where the angels weren’t these divine, pious, perfect creatures. Once, they were like us—flawed, temperamental…human. I had so much fun creating these characters that the single title turned into a trilogy.

~What’s your biggest writing quirk? I need a drink next to me. Coffee is my most often chosen beverage, but soda will do. Every few paragraphs, I take a sip. Of course, with coffee, it gets cold…so I end up heating it up. A lot.

~Any plans for a follow-up to Divinely Ruined? Yes! It’s a trilogy. Rebecca and Tony aren’t in the second two, but Sally is. And the stories all tie together. I’m working on the second book, Divinely Ransomed, right now. I’m about 70% done writing it.

~From initial conception to publication, how long was the process in writing this story for you? The book itself took me about three weeks to write. But, ironically enough, it was the second book I ever wrote. It sat untouched for about a year, and then in October, I pulled it out and completely re-wrote the story. My writing has come a long way since I first wrote it, so it needed a complete overhaul. The re-writing took a month, and then I subbed it to Entangled in November. It got accepted in the end of December, and the rest is history!

~What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received, from anyone? Don’t stop writing, and don’t stop editing. Don’t submit a book until you’ve read through it at least two times, and you’ve edited it at least two times. Also, have another fresh set of eyes read it. It’s amazing how much that can help you.

~If you could change the ending to any book you’ve ever read (shhhh! we won’t tell!), which would it be and why? Hmmm….Mockingjay. I loved the book, and the series, but I wouldn’t have killed—no spoilers—some of the characters she did. I think it was too much of a senseless blood bath at the end. Even for the series. LOL

~Who is your favorite fictional character of all time and why him/her? Oh, that’s a hard one, it really is. Let me think…I’ll stick with the above answer. Katniss from the Hunger Games trilogy. I love that she wasn’t all ‘oh my God a boy looked at me!’ like you see in a lot of teen books. She had a plan, an agenda, and was human—but she always had the best interests of her loved ones at heart.

~If you didn’t have writing, what else would you love to be doing? I always wanted to go to school to become an ultrasound technician. I would love telling people what their baby was, or letting them see their child for the first time

~Describe Divinely Ruined in a tweet, 140 characters or less: Rebecca has no need for love or men. She’s destined to become an angel. What she didn’t count on was falling for Tony, her first assignment.
