Adventure, mystery, great characters with interesting backstories, and complex (and amazing) world building…all found within the pages of this book! And look at that cover – I love it! I hadn’t read the Shadow and Bone series by Leigh Bardugo, so I was a little worried if I would be able to jump right into this one. As you’ve probably guessed, that wasn’t an issue. I quickly found myself immersed in this world of thieves, spies, and magic. Kaz Brekker and his band of outcasts kept me on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what crazy thing they were going to manage to pull off next. I enjoyed the different perspectives, and getting to know each character’s backstory, their motivations and some of their secrets. I also enjoyed watching them come together, forging bonds and struggling to put their trust in one another. My favorite character was Inej – she was tough, loyal, and kept me totally intrigued. I really liked the banter between the group – the sarcasm and wit was a great blend with the darkness that often filled the pages. The writing is clever, and the dialogue was smart and witty. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo takes a complicated heist scenario and puts it into the middle of a dark, magical world. She takes dangerous convicts and spies and makes the reader completely fall in love with them. Then she mixes in non-stop action, a couple of twists, and just the right amount of romance. The result is a fun, fast-paced book that left me wanting more. If I had any complaints, it would be that the ending left me wishing for more answers. I will be anxiously waiting for the next book in the series – this one’s a keeper!
