IS IT LUST? \r\nIvak Sigurdsson is dead...well, sort of. Guilty of the sin of lust, he’s been given an unusual penance: spend eternity as a Viking Vampire Angel, or Vangel, fighting Lucipires, Satan’s vampire demons on earth. Now sequestered in Angola Prison as a “spiritual advisor,” Ivak is finding all these centuries of celibacy depressing, to say the least. But then, along comes southern belle Gabrielle Sonnier. Is she a reward for his good deeds, or a temptation sent to rattle his lustsome brain?

\r\n

OR IS IT LOVE? \r\nGabrielle, a lawyer, begs Ivak to help get her brother out of prison. Aided by the Cajun LeDeux family and their chief looney bird, Tante Lulu, Ivak reluctantly agrees. And while he alternately tries to seduce and save Gabrielle before the Lucipires run rampant, they both begin to wonder if it’s really only lust, or something more.

Review

The more I read this series the more it sucks me in. This series to me is that bad song on the radio that you hear once and are like “eh” then after the 4 or 5th time you end up buying the CD. The first two books were good but not great by any means, yet once this one came up for review I jumped at the chance to read it. The Viking vampire world has officially pulled me into it.

In this 3rd book of the series we get Ivak’s story. He was guilty of the sin of lust. Apparently in his mortal lifetime he was up for a roll in the hay with any woman. Married, widowed, virgin, slave, it didn’t matter to him. This caused some major problems in his life, one of which was the fact he was sleeping with his best friend’s wife. This was the final sin that got him tossed into the VIK with his brothers. Like the other vangels, he has done many jobs. Now he is serving as a prison chaplain at the Angola Prison in Louisiana. It is there that he meets Gabrielle Sonnier.

Gabrielle has spent her adult life trying to free her brother from prison. It is during one of her visits with her brother that she meets Ivak. The sparks fly and then they do what all good romance characters do, fall in love. For Ivak this is a first as all he has ever experienced is lust. Gabrielle is a somewhat reluctant partner in this whole ordeal but then again so are most of the heroines in these stories.

I feel the side characters in this book bring this one together. I really liked the Le Duex family and how they take Gabrielle under their wings. Tante Lulu is specially well written, I suppose this helps that this character is based on a real person! She totally reminded me of this Great Aunt that I had growing up that would do as she please and everyone else in the family would just roll right along with her.

I have to say I enjoyed this one more than the first two books. Partly was the setting as I’m a huge fan of New Orleans, but also I think I just enjoyed this story line more than the first two. The twists in this one really make you want to finish reading once you start. Be warned you may not want to start it on your way to bed cause you will end up reading all night.

I'm a mother, a wife and a scientist. I read just about anything you put in front of me. I would say that my favourites are horror and romance. No wait, it's YA and dystopian novels. Umm, actually this week its mystery and paranormals. You know what, I really don't have a favourite genre, for me it varies by month, by week, or by day. Deep down I'm a nerdhuffer to my core. \r\n\r\nWhat? Nerdhuffer? What is that, you ask...\r\n\r\nDo you love the written word? Do you love those hard copies that sit in libraries full of the smell of glue, paper, and ink? Do you love those new copies that you stalk the book store for at midnight on its release to go home and read till 6AM even though you have to get up to go to work 7? Do you cherish an e-reader so that you can access a whole world of books whether you are at home, at the store, in the airport, or even... the bathroom? (What, you read in there too. Don't deny it, we're all friends here.) Did you just shake your head yes to any of those questions? Well then, my friends you are a nerdhuffer. Be proud, go forth in your addiction. I'll meet you at the bookstore to teach you the secret handshake. I'll be the one on the floor getting high off the pile of books at my feet.

  1. I read book 1 but lost track of the series. The first one was real funny. Tongue in cheek PNR with the near sex and all thirds angels running around. Sigh
