After watching her beloved sister Sophia pine over the ton’s Golden Boy for years, Miss Julia St. Claire has foresworn love and put herself firmly on the shelf. Unfortunately, her social-climbing mother and debt-ridden father have other ideas, and jump at the chance to marry Julia off to the newly-named Earl of Clivesden…the man of Sophia’s dreams.
Since resigning his Cavalry commission, Benedict Revelstoke has spent his time in London avoiding the marriage mart. But when he discovers that the Earl of Clivesden has set Julia in his sights, Benedict tries to protect his childhood best friend from the man’s advances—only to discover more than friendship driving his desire to defend her. He surprises them both with the force of his feelings, but when she refuses him and her father announces her betrothal, he fears he’s lost her forever—until Julia approaches him with a shocking scheme that will ruin her for all respectable society…
…and lead them into an exquisite world of forbidden pleasures.
I have to say for a debut novel this one was quite good. So many times an author’s first book is good but things like bad editing and mediocre writing can turn you off from picking up their next books. This one wasn’t lacking in any aspect. It was a great story, that was well written and highly entertaining.
I will give you one warning, this is one of those NSFW books. I swear I was blushing during parts of it and was worried my boss was going to ask me if I felt okay. Her love scenes are so well written, my brain had a jolly good time running amok with them. Now no worries this doesn’t get any where near erotica if you’re worried just very sexy, sexy, scenes.
So the story… that is what you are here about right? I will say this book moved. Sometimes with romances you seem to get parts that are thrown in for length rather than content. This one was great the whole way through. It was one of those books that I couldn’t put down. I started it this morning while I was running samples at work. (This is super boring where I have to sit by a machine and watch for a sample to come out and collect it. Hence a lot of reading time) By this afternoon, I was done and ready to write the review. Like I said it was fast paced.
The tale is about two sisters, the St. Clairs, and their would be love lives. The older one, Sophia, has turned down multiple proposals due to being in love with a complete ass. She is being thrown into a marriage with a gent named Highgate, due to a weird society circumstance. Not sure that they want this to happen they start their time together with a pack for her to end it before the actual marriage. As great as this story line was, it really was the side one.
The main one is about the younger sister, Julia. She like her sister has turned down a few proposals mostly because she doesn’t believe in love and didn’t want to be married to some besotted man knowing she would most likely never return the feelings. In comes her childhood friend, Benedict. From here you get her story of a forced marriage, so wanton lust and finally celebration.
This book really hit all the points for me, good writing great story lines, fast paced. If your looking for a new author, this is one that you don’t want to miss. I will definitely be picking up her new book that comes out towards the end of the year!
