BookShelfery is participating in the #BloggerBlackout

Blogger Blackout   BookShelfery is taking a break.  We are participating in the #bloggerblackout from now until November 3rd.  This means that no reviews or promotional pieces will be posted until that date.  We might have some discussion pieces throughout the week, but we will not be sharing books.  This also extends to our social media spaces, like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Honestly?  We would have taken the site down and put up a notice, but we are currently running a giveaway and we’re obligated to keep it live until the end.

Why we are participating

Between the EC vs DA lawsuit, Kathleen Hale’s stalking of a reviewer, and a Scottish reviewer being assaulted, we here at BookShelfery think it’s time to make a point that bloggers don’t owe authors and publishers a damn thing.  Reviews are for readers and blog spaces are to curate conversation between book lovers about books, whether good or bad.  The fact that authors gets their books pimped and publishers get cheap – or likely, free – publicity is just a nice perk for them, because we’d be reviewing library books and books we’ve purchased ourselves if we didn’t receive ARCs for review. And that’s really all that needs to be said, because everything else has been said already.

Jennifer is both a book nerd and professional photographer. That means she lives in the fantasy world all the time, whether of her making, or someone else's. She collects books like the Duggar family collects kids, and began waiting for her Hogwarts letter at the tender age of 33.
