#Bloggiesta Fall 2014

Posted on 09/18/2014 in Challenge / 12 Comments

Bloggiesta-Button-Fall-2014   Welcome to our first Bloggiesta post – ever.  BookShelfery (formerly The Bawdy Book Blog) is nearly 4 years old and we have NEVER participated in this, largely because I (Jennifer) always find out about it way too late LOL.  You can still sign up here! Bloggiesta is a chance for bloggers to take care of tedious things on our punchlist and also have fun while doing it.  So without further ado, here’s our list.

  • Clean up tags
  • Look at category hierarchy to determine if it needs to be culled and/or re-vamped
  • Schedule Indie Author Excerpt Posts (all done!)
  • Clean up Indie Author Excerpt archive
  • Write two reviews
  • Go through old reviews to add to Goodreads using UBB plugin
  • Clean out plugins
  • Understand what the hell the Core control plugin is and find out if I can get rid of that sumbitch
  • Clean out Form entries
  • Purchase UBB Review plugin? (I’ve decided not to do this for now)
  • Visit other Bloggiesta posts
  • Participate in Twitter chat
  • Find out why Facebook uses the wrong images when sharing a post
  • Clean out email
  • Post existing reviews to Amazon
  • Find a new backup plugin
  • Organize footer widgets
  • Create a movie review template
  • Create an Indie Author Excerpts template
  • Write a discussion post (new)
  • Update plugins (new)
  • Find out if Gravity Forms is actually using the correct email when notifying from form (new) It is!  woooo!
  • Re-attach images in older posts that were disconnected during the migration – but let’s be honest, that will probably never happen…ever (new)
  • Update About page with new pictures (new)
  • Edit Review Policy page to remove mentions of old blog name (new)
  • Combine policy pages into one, insert anchors to navigate page (new)
  • Insert anchors into Welcome page (new)
  • Fix author interview archive (new)
  • Create simple header (new)

I’ll probably add to this, so if I do, I’ll add (new) to the end.  If you think I missed something, let me know!

Bloggiesta Update 9/21

Well I managed to get through a lot of our list!  Our tags probably need to be cleaned up a bit more, but that’s okay, I got rid of about half of them.  And while I posted using the #bloggiesta tag on Twitter, I didn’t participate in any of the chats, because I was so busy with this list!  I kind of siloed myself.  The rest of the remaining list are things I do legitimately need to take care of, but all in due time, because I feel very accomplished this weekend!  This one’s for the books!

Let me know how you did in the comments below.

  1. Your list is much tamer than mine! What the hell is the Core plugin? Ooh…I should add making a few more templates to my list. I don’t have many, but they are a great time saver! Lots of luck with your list 😀

    • Core plugin is some weird thing that my host added about a year ago when they were working with Livefyre comments support to resolve an issue where posts weren’t posting back to my dashboard (not being backed up). I wanted to get rid of Livefyre, but I couldn’t until they resolved the postback issue and somehow Core Control was involved in that. I’m PRETTY sure I don’t need it, but I’ve kept it because I’m not positive and didn’t want to break anything LOL! I love templates, but my contributor Kristina loves them even more! I can get behind anything that enables me to be lazier hahaha.

  2. I need to do so much on my blog, but I hyperventilate when I think about it! I like to go through the articles after the fact when I have more time. I think it’s the deadlines that freak me out. Good luck on your list. (I’ve been blogging for 4 years too!)

    • There are deadlines?! I’m never going to finish this by the deadline! I’ve added too much! *breathes* I think the point though is to do what you can? That’s my goal anyway.

    • I’ve had the full UBB plugin for a little over a year and I love it! I couldn’t imagine life without it. I did decide to pass on the UBB Review Request plugin though. I just don’t really need it, because I have my gravity forms set up pretty well and we don’t take enough review requests via email or the forms to really justify it. Our TBRs are too big. \nThanks, I’m really happy with the header, I think it’s a good one to stand-in until we get a re-design. 🙂
