For 140 years, Nathaniel Cade has been the President's Vampire, sworn to protect and serve his country. Cade's existence is the most closely guarded of White House secrets: a superhuman covert agent who is the last line of defense against nightmare scenarios that ordinary citizens only dream of.\r\n\r\nWhen a new outbreak of an ancient evil-one that he has seen before- comes to light, Cade and his human handler, Zach Barrows, must track down its source. To "protect and serve" often means settling old scores and confronting new betrayals . . . as only a centuries-old predator can.
One of the Nation’s oldest and most classified secrets is Nathaniel Cade, the President’s Vampire. Yes, you saw that right, a VAMPIRE. Zach Barrows is a political genius who gets assigned to Cade and the life he has prepared for himself gets flushed down the toilet. The series’ second installment follows Cade and Zack on an assignment investigating the “Snake People”. This is without a doubt (so far!), my favorite book Christopher has written. I absolutely loved this book!!! You will not be able to top this, Mr. Farnsworth!!! The second thing I loved about this book was the little snippets the author wrote between the chapters, showcasing clips from CIA conspiracy books. If I was reading this book instead of listening to it, it would have taken me twice as long to read the book. I would have read the book next to the computer just to research each one to see if they were true! Then I would have marked half these books down in my Goodreads “to-read” books!!! What I loved most about this book was the author’s description of what happens at the “Black Site”, the location of the big bad showdown between the Snake Heads and Cade. I loved how the author broke it down. I could literally see the whole thing unfolding like a movie!! It was epic!!!! Although I must say I am having a hard time figuring out what the Snake Heads look like. Christopher takes you inside the heads of everyone. He tells you everything that is going to happen, on every level. The detail is so descriptive, you will lose track of time getting wrapped up in it. I re-listened to this scene 5 times – that is how much I loved it!!! The Good Guys Nathaniel Cade, our very own United States New Age Vampire, is still at it! With his dry sense of humor and a no-nonsense attitude, he provides an entertaining story – especially when you add humans and conspiracy to Cade’s life. Zack Barrows has not changed in the year since we last heard from this crazy duo! I am quite surprised about that. I didn’t expect him to turn into someone like our old pal Agent Griffin, as I expected him to have matured a little bit. But no, it seems that nothing has changed with our “handler” – still as flighty as ever and not that bright. The Bad Guys Graves is the badass in this story. He feels he is untouchable. He is an older gentleman in his mid-60’s who is tough and fearless. But when you read this book, pay attention to him and his character, there is more than meets the eye with this guy. He has been genetically altered, but we don’t know how or by whom. Bell is the odd bad girl in this book. Her actions in the book are almost justifiable. This little minx seduces Zack into giving away a bunch of national secrets, landing Zack in a world of trouble. You thought what happened to Zack in the first book was bad, OMG you’ve seen nothing yet!!! Book, now he is one scary Mo-Fo!!! I would not want to meet this guy in a dark alley – or a lit one, for that matter. He is not your typical psychopath. What makes him so scary is the fact that he doesn’t do the things he does because he had a bad childhood or was bullied as a kid; for him, his actions are as routine as putting on shoes for the day. Candle is the comedic relief among the bad guys. He is the lackey, the joker, the wannabe – and the poor guy doesn’t even know it. But I must say, I love his tie. The Narrator of the book is Bronson Pinchot. Those born in the 70’s and early 80’s will recognize this actor. He appeared in movies such as: Risky Business, True Romance, Beverly Hills Cop, and The Langoliers, as well as numerous television shows ranging from Perfect Strangers, Step by Step and the Young and the Restless. I would have enjoyed reading this book but Bronson’s raw talent made me fall in love with it.
