Subscription Box Review: OwlCrate

I think that by now, everyone knows how much I love OwlCrate, so I’ll just dive right in. OwlCrate is a monthly subscription box that contains a YA book, along with 3-5 other goodies that go along with that particular month’s theme. The theme for April was Dystopia, which I was pretty excited about. Even though the genre has been pretty exhausted by this point, it’s one that I still love. I adore the post cards that are always at the top of the box, and this month’s did not disappoint… IMG_7094   The first item that caught my eye in this month’s box was a Mockingjay bracelet from The Geeky Cauldron (estimated value – $8). Have you guys seen this site? I *need* that golden snitch bracelet in my life (I was the golden snitch for Halloween). So many awesome pieces of jewelry in this shop! This one is cute, and I would be thrilled to see more from this shop in a future box! IMG_7125   While we’re on the subject of Katniss, there was also a Hunger Games-inspired magnet from Half Blood Prints (estimated value – $2).  I think this style is really cool, but not sure this is my favorite. IMG_7130   Next up is a Shatter Me-inspired coaster designed by Evie Bookish. Great quote, and her designs are gorgeous. I would’ve been more excited if this had been a magnet or a poster, but this will be a cute coaster for my office. IMG_7127   How about a WICKED decal created by Shailey Ann Designs? (Estimated value – $7.50). I’m a Maze Runner fan (well, of the first two books, anyway), but I’m not sure this is something that I’ll really use. IMG_7118   There was also a notebook from Manuscript featuring artwork from 1984 by George Orwell (estimated value – $6.99). Kinda cool, but it’s a small, unlined notebook, and probably my least favorite out of all the notebooks I’ve gotten in subscription boxes. Maybe I’m judging it a little harshly since I received a Harry Potter-themed notebook this month, too! IMG_7126   Most importantly, this month’s book is Flawed by Cecelia Ahern (retails for $11.36 on Amazon). The premise sounds interesting – a society where perfection is mandatory, and people are punished for any mistakes. But I’m also a little hesitant, after reading some reviews and also seeing that this is a planned series. I love reading the letter from the author and think this is a great added touch. IMG_7122   All in all, this is probably one of my least favorite OwlCrates to date. There wasn’t one specific item that I immediately fell in love with or got really excited about, and it felt like there were more small items this time. Even though there were items from some great series, it fell a little flat for me. I’m still a loyal fan, and I’m hoping that I will love the book. Next month’s theme is Steampunk, so I can’t wait to see what is in store! IMG_7134
