Sophronia continues second year finishing school in style -- with a steel-bladed fan secreted in the folds of her ball gown. She, best friend Dimity, sweet sootie Soap, and charming Lord Felix Mersey stow away on train to return classmate Sidheag to her werewolf pack in Scotland. No one suspects what or who would be aboard the suspiciously empty train.\r\n
What do you get when you cross supernatural creatures, flywaymen, picklemen and teenaged girls being trained for espionage? AWESOME IS WHAT YOU GET!\r\n\r\nCarriger continues with kick-ass characters and delves deeper into the psyche of what it means to be a\r\n\r\nI liked everything about this novel: Soap gets more sophisticated page time and proves he’s not just a poor boy shoveling coal; Felix Mersey is still pursuing Sophronia, and is quite miffed that he might have competition in the form of Soap, who should just be a boy who helps Sophronia, but isn’t; Dimity continues to be adorable with her love of high fashions and desires to be a kept lady of a house – eventually.\r\n\r\nThis time the kids have gotten themselves in a pickle (sorry for the slight pun): Lady King Aire has been whisked away to deal with personal tragedy within her pack, only to be dumped back on Sophronia’s family’s doorstep, angry and bitter. The team (somewhat begrudgingly) pledges to get her back to Scotland where she can make decisions for her family, but along the way are funny mishaps, danger and intrigue.\r\n\r\nOh yes, and there is an engagement, too!\r\n\r\nWaistcoats & Weaponry is super fun and comedic, but it isn’t without its darker moments, like when Sophronia must reconcile her feelings for a black boy and a lord. Sophronia and team have to make split second judgements in this book, sometimes for the better, others for the worse, and it was fun and interesting to see how they dealt with their repercussions. Dare I say, they grow up more in this book than the other two, and it was fascinating to ride along for the fun.\r\n
\r\nMoira Quirk is a top fav narrator. Dare I say she is tied with Khristine Hvam in my opinion!
