There's nowhere better to spend the holidays than with New York Timesbestselling author Susan Mallery in the town of Fool's Gold, where love is always waiting to be unwrapped... Noelle Perkins just got a second chance at life, and she intends to make the most of every minute. That's why she ditched a frustrating legal career to open her own store in Fool's Gold, California. The Christmas Attic celebrates everything that's magical about her favorite season. Business is booming, and as a bonus, gorgeous army doctor Gabriel Boylan has offered to help out during the holiday rush.

\r\nGabriel's memories of Christmas past contain more sour grapes than sugar plums, thanks to a drill sergeant father who ran his home like a boot camp. Spending the holidays with his family while he recuperates from injury sounds as appetizing as last year's eggnog. Still, there are some enjoyable distractions in town, including sunny, sexy Noelle...and the red-hot mistletoe kisses they can't stop sharing.\r\n\r\nGabriel didn't think he was made for happily-ever-afters. But when fate hands you a love as sweet and surprising as this, only a fool could refuse....

Christmas On 4th Street by Susan Mallery is a sweet romance and perfect for those who want a dose of holiday cheer with their HEAs.

It’s no secret I love Christmas books. I have been like this all my life, because they are filled with Christmas cheer and who doesn’t love that?  Christmas On 4th Street is no different and I truly enjoyed it.  I begin every Christmas book with a bit of dread that it will end up being too sappy for me, and this is not the case here (and hardly ever, so my fear is most often unwarranted!).  Instead Susan Mallery took us to Fool’s Gold, California right before Thanksgiving, and that’s where I stepped into the winter wonderland if its pages.

\r\n

Noelle, one of our main characters, is new to the town, by about six months, but she has already put down roots and opened her own Christmas store, serving patrons year round.  Gabriel is on leave from the Army as a doctor while he heals his hand, and his mind as well.  He may not be a soldier in the sense of seeing battle, but he gets the results of battle, and that has taken its toll on him.  While he’s in town visiting his family, the two meet and sparks of course fly, a perfect time of year for this sort of thing to happen.

\r\n

I really liked both of these characters.  Gabriel is suitably broken and resistant to any kind of relationship, and we as the reader are privy to his internal struggle.  Noelle is a very strong woman, having fought her own set of battles and come out on the other side, better than ever, knowing exactly what she wants and uncompromising of her own beliefs and views on life.  I really enjoyed her as a character.  She not only told it like it was, but she was funny.

\r\n

Fool’s Gold is like one of those quaint towns you only read about, where everyone knows everything about everyone else, but only has the best intentions at heart. Do places like this really exist?  Because if so, someone please tell me, I wanna move there immediately.  The townspeople were adorbs, and I just pictured everything so perfectly in my mind as Mallery wrote it.

\r\n

Overall, this is your typical romance with holiday cheer thrown into the mix.  There is hints of sex, but this is a clean romance for those who don’t want erotic in their books.  It’s part of a series, but Christmas On 4th Street can be read easily as a standalone, so if you’re looking for some sweet Christmas reading, look no further!

Jennifer became addicted to books when she randomly picked up a Sweet Valley High book in grade school. She never looked back. After blowing through the SVH and SVU series faster than her parents could put them in her hands, she began perusing her stepfather's bookshelves and reading fantasy like Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series, which she still maintains is some of the best fantasy ever. She collects books like the Duggar family collects kids and began waiting for her Hogwarts letter at the tender age of 33.

  1. Lauren's Loquacious Literature

Christmas books can NEVER be too sappy. Though I take that back actually, there was a Debbie Macomber modern retelling of the birth of Jesus that I found a bit too much and stopped reading. But this looks fun and I do love a good Christmas shop. \r\n\r\nHave you read Christmas at the Cupcake Cafe? I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.
