Subscription Box Review: OwlCrate

OwlCrate did something really cool for the July box: the theme was Good vs. Evil, and you didn’t know if you were receiving a good-themed or an evil-themed box until you opened it.  Such a fun idea! This created even more anticipation, and I was secretly hoping to receive evil. Well, sometimes our wishes come true! I got an “evil” box, but after seeing pictures, I can assure you that they were both boxes were equally awesome.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nAs always, the first thing I pulled out of the box was the creative postcard that has become the hallmark of OwlCrate. Someday, I’ll think of something really creative to do with all these, but for now, I just collect them.\r\n\r\nOwlcrate Evil\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nI knew there was going to be a Funko Pop figure in this month’s box, and I couldn’t wait to see which one I got. I was really excited to see that they were Harry Potter themed, and I got a Dementor! The evil boxes came with either a Dementor or Draco Malfoy, and the good boxes had Dobby or Luna Lovegood (I need to get Dobby! My hubs was Dobby for Halloween).  Retail Value: $8.95\r\n\r\nIMG_1650\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe next item was equally awesome – a Death Star necklace from Vector Engraving. I’m a huge Star Wars nerd (as you can probably guess from this picture), so I was thrilled with it. The good box contained the Millennium Falcon. Retail Value – $16.\r\n\r\nIMG_1635\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nNext up was a magnetic bookmark created by Jane’s Tiny Things – The Queen of Hearts! The Disney fan in me cheered when I saw this one, and I have come to love these magnetic book marks. The good box received Alice. Retail value $4. And people, she has a Night Circus set! I will be ordering that ASAP!\r\n\r\nIMG_1639\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThere were also a few little extras – an Illuminae-inspired sticker designed exclusively for OwlCrate by Drop and Give Me Nerdy, a coloring book of YA covers, and one of my favorite things about OwlCrate – the letter from the author. I absolutely love getting a glimpse into why they were inspired to write a book or what it means to them.\r\n\r\nIMG_1619\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nAnd now, for the book…This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab!\r\n\r\nThis Savage Song\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nLook familiar? If you read my previous post about Uppercase Box, it should…another duplicate book. Such a disappointment, two months in a row. But like I said regarding last month’s duplication, both companies acknowledged it and offered customers a solution. I was very impressed with their customer service. I understand the risk in subscribing to two different book boxes, but having happened twice in a row is a little more frustrating. As of right now, I am keeping both subscriptions. But if it happens again, I will probably have to consider choosing one or the other.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe theme for the August OwlCrate has been revealed, and it is…\r\n\r\nIMG_1664\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThis is sure to be a really fun box, and I can’t wait to see what’s inside!
